Because you can't use dick until IE expires

Catching up on things, so bear with me.

Alexis Deveria posted a great breakdown of when you can use various browser features and pieces of specs. In addition to confirming what we all know - IE fucking sucks - it also gives a good visual of when you can plan to start using given features based on your matrix of supported browsers, which will invariably include some version of IE. For many of us, that even includes the dinosaur itself, IE6.

A couple of highlights from the results:

If you notice anything amiss in the results, don't just fucking dismiss the whole thing - let Alexis know in the comments so he can fix it.

I didn't see you there, but I particularly liked these comments of two lost souls yearning to breathe free:

"Unfortunately, my company still uses IE 6.0 SP2. Fortune 500 needs to get with the program!

@Corporate Drone: I feel your pain. I have the same issue at my US Government agency, namely IE6 is the only browser we are allowed to use. It's very frustrating... :(

I've run into a website with a warning similar to finn.no's and just sighed. I want to fix the problem, but it's out of my control!

You'd think organizations most concerned with security would lead the way, rather than burying their heads in the fucking dirt. Unfortunately, they pretty much lead the world in clutching onto the broken piece of shit we call IE6.

I agree that bigname companies should dump IE altogether and get with the program. However - do you think maybe they bury their heads in their asses because windows is "the" OS on most systems?

A: Probably half from that, half from the fact that so much in that world revolves around passing the fucking buck. If shit goes wrong, they need someone else to blame. Since IE comes with the operating system, they can blame Microsoft and raise hell until it gets fixed.

Not that they actually raise hell about IE or get any of its fucking problems fixed, mind you.

As I wrote to Chris Blizzard in response to his suggestion of tweeting or joining a Facebook group,"I would do more, but I’d probably break something. Took me over two years just to realize I can tag posts."

According the WhenCanIUse tables, IE7 supports PNG transparency. While this is mostly true it doesn't get it 100% right. PNG transparency in IE7 is supported when alpha is at 0% or 100% but at any point in between the image renders with a horrible black border where there are pixels with their own alpha at anything between 0% and 100%. So PNG images in IE7 can't be used in dynamic sites that use javascript to fade images in and out. I'd say partially supported since I had to give up, change the layout around, and use GIF.
