Firefox 3.5 Released, and Microsoft runs an idiotic ad campaign

Download Firefox 3.5 today to thank Mozilla for not running shit like this:

Also, for the features.

DON'T Download 3.5 as it is utter shit. Not only does it run slower than an 80 year old arthritic is crashes constantly. Another great feature is the inability to uninstall it.
I expected more from Mozilla as I've used FF for the past 2 years.
Deleted EVERYTHING with the words Mozilla on my system and re-installed FF 3.0.11. I can live without the fancy pants new version.

Sounds like you installed 1.5, not 3.5. I've run 3.5 this whole time and it works fine for me. Suggestions:

1. Check your addons. Many of them suck more with age, including (unfortunately) Firebug.
2. Try 3.5 with a fresh profile to see if something else from your profile made it suck.
3. Check your fucking attitude. They worked hard on it, and made a lot of improvements. If you find a reason as to why it sucks balls for you, tell them about it.

Yeah... maybe you are right... the FF3.5 runs very slow on a Hannah-Montana-PC. Try a better PC. I use a P4 with 1Gb Ram and FF3.5 runs perfectly.

Actually, Firefox 3.5.1 has major problems, which can't be fixed even when uninstalled and removed from registry. I'm very experienced with computers and trust me, until Mozilla finds a fix, there is NO fixing it. It even mucks up ANY other browser installed on the system. If you don't believe me, google search "firefox 3.5.1 server not found" and you'll see what I'm talking about. SPREAD THE WORD, if anyone out there still hasn't updated to FF 3.5.x, DON'T! Just trying to help, you don't want this headache.

Well, that search brings up a single support thread and an unrelated blog post. The former seems to entirely revolve around Windows' networking issues that Firefox uncovered for a few people when changing how they make requests.

That didn't exactly make a very persuasive argument, Anonymous.

A truly retarded ad. "Ooh, webslices, we have webslices!". Is that the best you can come up with, Microsoft? IE8 is no improvement from the previous versions, if anything, it just gets PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I downloaded IE8 just to see if for once, the people at Microsoft would get a clue and make a functionally useful browser. Clearly I had my head in the clouds. Dowmloading the damn thing alone was the crappiest experience ever. First, it scanned my computer for viruses, something that took centuries to do. I have AV software, why the hell would I need you guys to scan my PC, considering that ironically enough, it is YOUR browser that has installed every bit of malware on my computer, more so than LimeWire. Then, it took another 500 years just to download and install. Then I had to restart the computer. The whole process took AN HOUR AND A HALF. With every other browser, you just download, install, and use all within the space of 5 minutes. No wonder Microsoft is losing out to Apple. WHY must they force IE upon us? By deliberately embedding IE into the OS, you basically turn every computer running Windows into a hacker's paradise.

Anonymous #7: One of their ads actually kind of entertained people and put the "private browsing" functionality in its proper place as "porn mode" once and for all. Unfortunately, they decided to fill it entirely with projectile vomiting, slipping on vomit, and vomiting on the person now on the floor. They ended up pulling the ad due to a fuckton of complaints that poured in as soon as people saw it.

Anonymous #8: And I suppose this shows us the most articulate parody you can muster? That...just seems really sad. I mean, I feel bad for you at this point.

Yes, Explorer is about as useful as a condom machine at the Vatican.

At first, Explorer 8 seemed to be reading HTML and CSS codes correctly but then things went ass backwards tonight for no reason and it's screwing up my pages.

I'm getting tired of creating a seperate IE hack code css file to correct these problems.

Why can't they just make it work right? More importantly, why can't people stop using IE and just go on Firefox. I never have a problem with Firefox.

Google Chrome? Not all that great either from what I've seen.

And on a side note, it's a shame what happened to "Superman" Dean Cain's career if he has to be appearing in an IE ad.

LOL...failed logic. Not surprising coming from you. I'd ask you to elaborate but your opinions have grown to mean nothing to me. You should really stop blogging. The innocent, information seeking people of the internet need to be protected from self-righteous bigots like yourself. I've read some of your other crap out of curiosity and was equally disgusted. It never ceases to amaze me the things people can say when hiding behind their computer. Especially when those people think they know what they’re talking about.

Firefox has its faults but overall it is a good browser.

I find that lots of problems I come across with IE are easily solved by using FF. The changes between versions of IE often cause issues, I work in IT in the logistics industry and find that every time IE is updated we seem to be hit with strange problems that take MS time to resolve. Having users on 3 different versions of IE is a real pain sometimes, in some cases we have to hold off on releasing the latest version to certain areas of the company as it has knock on effects with web based applications they use. On the flip side we often find some sites/distributors ignore FF and other browsers and sites either don’t work or look like a child has designed them.

From a web development point of view FF is great, it sticks to the rules and I normally find that if it’s ok in FF then it’s Ok in chrome etc. IE normally makes a mess of things but as someone has already stated IE is the most heavily used browser. You have to code for the majority and put up with little annoyances with how the page is displayed in FF and the like.

If you use FF with as few add-ons as possible it tends to be fine 99% of the time, from experience it is usual add-ons that cause the majority of issues.

In an ideal world everyone would use the same browser, all the add-ons/plug-ins were properly tested and web sites displayed in the way you coded them. The fact this isn’t the case is why browser technology is progressing so quickly, before FF and after Netscape fell off a cliff MS had no real competition and the new versions were very slow to come about. Competition is good for the consumer!

Firefox user since version 0.8 or so. Firefox is now worse than Netscape 3. Some of you might be old enough to know what I mean. Firefox has become shit. They must have rehired the old Netscape 3 team.

SO the pissing contest idiots still don't get it. FF 3.5.x does indeed suck., You can't fix what is broken at the source. Since 3.5 there is me and (do the search) thousands of people having "server not found" issues all over the place. Let me note that my FF is a clean install (no previous versions) .. so thatnks Mozilla,,,

By the way,,

Addons have nothing to do with it...

Profile has nothing to do with it either.. tried,, a lot...

Oh,, and about that attitude thing,, both of your attitudes suck...

FF sold out,,, They force feed the upgrades since 3.5 and with each upgrade FF is getting worse... notably worse..

Even better,,, this FF issue affects the IE as well..

So if you don't have the issue,,, check your attitude as well and ask yourself how many hours of work some people lost because of this problem,, and maybe their frustration is justified...

So I say too,, FUNKING FIREFOX! Shit ass development on 3.5.x coming from a colleague dev.

The point is, FF becoming more and more bloated as in bloatware. Yeah that's right BLOATED, while ironic enough IE in turns have become less complicated in its coding striving to become a better contender in terms of performance.

Really miss the old days where FF is just a simple browser with great addons. No addional feature that are BS just simple and clean interface and design.

As for right now I'm sticking and betting my dime on Chrome. Hard to imagine Google screwing up a web browser.

I think this says it all, really.

"As for right now I'm sticking and betting my dime on Chrome."

Good choice!

"what the fuck mozilla you ruined it?"

If you really think Firefox sucks, go tell someone who gives a shit. I don't work for Mozilla, and I don't use Firefox except for testing.

I actually thought those IE8 ads were funny. Seems like you just have a knot in your ass about Microsoft.

BTW, Firefox doesn't impress me. Just like Netscape 6 - the FIRST browser to use Gecko didn't impress me. The addons aren't impressive either, except Firebug and FireFTP.

Opera 10 FTW!

Anoniturd said: "IE is rock solid, FF is a pain in the ass. Standards compliance is over rated."

Wrong, wrong and wrong. IE is incredibly insecure, Firefox is rock stable and we have standards for a reason. All browsers except IE have implemented the standards.

Same Anoniturd said: "If you're programming for FF and neglecting IE, you're just plain stupid."

If your JS or CSS works in FF, the chances are near 100% that it'll work in Chrome, Opera etc. IE didn't - and still doesn't - follow the standards that have been in place for who knows how long. So if you're programming for IE you're encouraging bad programming and a bad browser.

how to uninstall FF 3.5?

This is why ff 3.5 is slower:

http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2009/07/workaround-for-firefox-3-5-slow-startups-on-windows/

It's because they changed how it gets randomness: it looks deeper in you temporary directory to get random numbers, but if you've got a slower computer / too many temp files it'll take significantly longer to load pages than it used to. I agree that ff has become more bloated as time goes on sadly, and I even saw a statement from Microsoft about this supporting their closed source IE. Mozilla needs to offer a lightweight version or something, instead of giving Microsoft more fuel to try dissuading people from finally moving beyond IE.
